I asked one of my coaching clients the other day what he saw when he looked in the mirror, and his response didn’t surprise me.  It had negative overtones and related somewhat directly with a business challenge he was having.  His negative beliefs about his ability to overcome this particular challenge were coming out in his thoughts, words, and then his actions.

How many of you look in the mirror and think negative things about yourselves?  Do you put yourself down in your head?  I hear this in my clients’ words every day, and I have to stop them and remind them to rephrase their descriptions of themselves before it sets their beliefs.  If this is you, please stop right this instant!

The mind is a powerful thing and we can either tell it how bad we are or we can tell it how good we are – either way, it believes us!  This is the power of Positive Affirmations; it is how they work.  Our subconscious believes whatever we tell it, and acts to help prove our thoughts.  If we tell ourselves we can’t do something, or that we aren’t good at something, our sub-conscious will help find evidence to support what we have said.

On the other hand, when we tell our sub-conscious positive things about ourselves, it works OT to find evidence and results to support what we have told it.  Positive affirmations like this also create higher levels of confidence and energy, which are contagious (in a good way).

So the next time you look in the mirror, tell yourself how proud you are of your efforts.  Recognize what you have accomplished, remember what you are learning, and give yourself credit for being brave and courageous.  Remind yourself of the successes you have achieved already and the dreams you have of bigger and better successes in the future.  Then let your subconscious be you partner in achieving your future!
